It *is* somewhat frustrating when freestyle applications have “no word count.” I feel more comfortable when I at least have a word count goal to shoot for, and even if I pass it, at least I know I’ve met their minimum requirements. It’s always good for admins to state clearly what their expectations are.
i honestly don’t see the problem with having a no word count freeform ad. i think people should have a generally decent idea of what makes a well rounded character application. it’s not like every site needs to post a rubric for what does or doesn’t constitute a mary sue, so why is it so hard for people to understand what does or doesn’t constitute a solid application?
Staff shouldn’t need to hold your hand on everything. The freestyle app on my site has no word count and I’ve had absolutely no questions or problems. You should have enough common sense to know that two paragraphs won’t cut it, and you should know when your application has finished doing its job of explaining your character.
I think, though people should know what makes a good app, no word count usually allows people that can string together crap in and then they get into the site and cant actually roleplay up to the standard the site is saying they are at. Its happened to be quite a few times on no word count apps. Its fine to have no word count and its fine to have a freestyle app. Do I think you should have both on the same site, no.
Wow ok having a 500 word minimum on your app does not equal quality writing or “setting standards.” You’re just saying “make your app this long.” That’s it. Setting a word minimum isn’t going to stop people from making spelling and grammar mistakes and having bad characters.
