from the gods came everything. in ancient greece, they were worshiped and adored, honored for giving life to the earth and the mortals that inhabited it. at the height of their power, the gods and goddesses were able to rule from the heavens or here, among us. they slaughtered entire cities for blaspheming, and granted their dutiful followers with immortality and magic.
but a deity is only as powerful as the people who pray to them. when the romans overthrew greece, they eliminated the old gods almost entirely, replacing them with their own. and at the height of the holy roman empire, when christianity took over, the gods and goddesses of old found themselves with no place in the world. no longer worshiped, they were called fairytales and legends.
zues, king of the gods, knew that without the power that prayers and sacrifices gave them, they would all perish. he, along with the other olympians, came to a grave decision. in order to save their souls from truly dying, they used their last ounces of power to send their spirits to earth.
here, for thousands of years, they have been reincarnated over and over again. though they have no memory of who they once were, and their powers have long left them, they still maintain their same personalities. enemies, friends, and lovers seem to inexplicably find each other, no matter how many times their human bodies live and die.
at present, the spirits have taken up residence of discord, virginia, a small, sleepy little town that no one would ever guess had any significance at all.
