to the anon about activity checks - they are most definitely worth it! members, threads and all. it cleans up the site and just overall makes the place more appealing and, in my opinion, i would most likely rather join a site with clean active threads no matter the number, than old cluttered dead im threads.
I think activity checks are one of many RP double-edged swords. In a way, they’re good and can offer an opportunity for people to either decide they want to stay and get themselves in gear or leave the site, and either way, the admins can get rid of inactive accounts that are hogging but not using PBs. But on the other hand, there are people who do only what is necessary for the AC, but are otherwise inactive. Over all, though, I think an activity check does more good than harm.
re: activity checks - I used to swear by them, but recently I realized that there’s no real point to an activity check. You know who’s active, and you know who isn’t. It’s really just the official way to clear up the claims and remind people to be active. However, for me at least, an actual RP thread holds more weight than an IM thread, no matter what. You can’t just make a character and expect to keep them if all you do is IM threads. It’s a waste of a face and possibly a canon.
to activity check anon: i think they’re great. they’re a good way to get people to start threading if they’re not, and they’re a good way to help the admins clean up the board a little. i prefer activity checks that require actual threading. anyone can throw up an open im thread to get themselves through the check, but rp is about writing, so if someone isn’t going to write, why bother joining a site in the first place?
