I think it comes from people just assuming that if you can write a long post, it means that you can write. It’s actually utterly ridiculous. I used to rp with someone that wrote 500 words about cake, that was not prudent to the thread or moving the plot along. Really? Seriously? I don’t care. I want to see what happens next I don’t care how the souflee was rising when it didn’t even matter she was making one. the thread wasn’t about that

I think it’s irritating to see people hating on gigantic word counts. Believe it or not, some people actually just enjoy reading novels and returning the favor. My posts range from 1,500 to 3,700 on most days and take me an hour to do at most. They’re not mindless fluff, but instead actual interaction, thoughts, action, dialogue. There is NOTHING wrong with gigantic posts! Some people just prefer them. We don’t hate on Low or no wc sites, why hate on us? I find it ridiculous.

Let people do what they want.

To the anon telling people to “let people do what they want”: I don’t think there’s been a person here that said that they aren’t allowed to write however much their little heart desires. You’re allowed to do whatever you want to do, just like they’re entitled to comment on it. You’re not entitled to escape all consequences and criticisms of everything you do.

@Anon who writes 3700 words per post “without fluff”: forgive me if I don’t believe you. I’ve been RPing for a very long time. I’m showing my age here by saying that I’ve done it for ever ten years, across pretty much every online medium, pbp, pbemail, messenger, tumblr, irc, etc. I’ve been at it since before IF was around. I’ve been around long enough to recognize that IF/Jcink/Proboards are just a drop in the bucket as far as forum-based RPs are concerned. And I’ve never seen someone consistently write 2000+ words “without fluff”. If you can, you would be the first. But I suspect, like many who write long posts, they don’t realize how much fluff they actually have.
